Notes: Written for the Everlasting Birthday Exchange for marourin, happy birthday! Er, or something. Original prompt: Castiel Novak is an FBI agent embroiled in a deadly cat and mouse game with a mysterious and charismatic serial killer (Dean Winchester). As the game carries on and Castiel’s obsession grows, the killer might be closer than he ever suspected. Er, while the prompt calls for Cas POV, the only way this fic could be written was through Dean’s, sorry. This is substantially darker than anything I’ve ever written before, and I hope it turns out to be to your liking. (I am not this dark in real life, I swear. *thinks happy thoughts*)

Notes: This is a sort of fusion of ideas from Equilibrium, 1984, and SPN. This stupidly long thing started off with this prompt on the AR/AU fusion: Set in a dystopian society w/a dictatorship/authoritarian kind of government, in which Sam and Dean are part of a resistance movement. Anna is in a high-level government position and decides to rebel and join the resistance. Castiel is part of the team sent to find her and capture her (he is already having doubts about the system he works for and etc). That's the bare bones of the plot, how Cas and Dean get together is up to the writer. I thought it was interesting prompt at that time but figured, meh, don't have time. It wasn't until the Dean/Cas X-mas Exchange that the requester gave me a prompt of 'prison-fic' that I started writing.

Unfortunately, as this turned out to be a LOT longer than expected, I couldn't finish this fic on time and instead wrote this to fill the request. I originally intended for that fic to act as an outline for this one, but um, this fic got a tiny bit out of hand. As a result, Republic of Heaven's not so much as an outline as a...different...fic. 


Yeah. Nine months later (started writing this in November, finished it in July), this is the result. *falls over*
